Atomic City Comics

I'm alive!! 💃 and I hope that everyone had a good Labor Day weekend. So, during said weekend (actually, it was a four day weekend for me, I know, lucky) on Sunday, we went to inner city Philly near Queen Village to stop by one of the best and most worthwhile comic stores, Atomic City Comics. Now, for those of you who aren't familiar, Atomic City Comics, is absolutely one of the best comic stores you can possibly visit. It looks small from the outside, and even though it can get a bit crowded, it is always in a hustle and bustle. From the get go, you are greeted with a friendly, genuine smile (Joe was working the register) and he made us feel right at home. One of the first things that he always mentioned to every single customer was, if you have questions, feel free to ask. I loved that! There are some comic book stores, where there isn't a very friendly feeling, and specially if you have a question, it can sometimes feel like, they're doing you a favor. That is

These ARE the Trailers You're Looking For.

It's that time of year again, where those of us mere mortals who for three days will constantly be reminded how poor we are that we aren't at this year's SDCC 2019, yet again 😩😶. Thankfully it IS 2019 and with the help of the magical internet, we are able to still get to enjoy the trailers, sneak peeks that those fortunate souls have seen with their own eyes. So, let's not fret, because this year, has been as promising and super exciting for many fandoms. From Stranger Things ' new season (is it season 4? sorry, not sure) to the trailer of IT  sequel, there have been many reasons why our Geeky hearts have been sent fluttering throughout the weekend. Not to mention the merchandise previews, etc.  There will definitely be many awesome choices to choose coming this Fall 2019 and beyond. What really got me excited was HBO/BBC's trailer for His Dark Materials  series. In the words of Obi-wan Kenobi:  These ARE the droids we're looking for. Yeah, I k

Bring Honor to Us All

Disney's live-action Mulan teaser trailer is here and I am absolutely living for this! 😄 I love that it looks like it is a mesh between "The Ballad of Mulan" and the animated movie. I also love how in the teaser trailer the film pays tribute tin a respectful way to Chinese culture and at the same time it keeps the iconic aesthetic of the animated film.  From what we've seen of the teaser, it looks to be a balanced blend. I also love how Mulan is un-apologetically a strong female lead, something that, in the original animated film was showed case, but in the live-action it seems like it is taken to a more deeper mature level. Certain iconic supporting characters seem to be missing from the teaser, which has caused negative backlash from people 🙀. Seriously people? You're getting your panties in a twist because Mushu doesn't seem to be in the teaser trailer? Can't you guys wait to confirm whether he'll be included or not? If you're still not

Dragons+Maids = AMAZING!

Lately I've been in a anime & manga mood. I definitely wouldn't consider myself an Otaku by any stretch of the imagination, but I do have a fondness and appreciation for the genres. I'm also open to suggestions because I'd be lying to y'all that if I said that I have read ALL or MANY. I probably haven't scratched the surface to be honest. But the ones that I have been introduced to me, I have not yet been disappointed (except for Escaflowne, really couldn't get into it, sorry!) Recently I just discovered Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid  (thanks to my husband, Barnes & Crunchyroll). So, my husband encountered the anime and one weekend when we were at Barnes & Noble we picked up the manga for it. Both my daughter and I read the first book and we loved it! Crunchyroll I love the fact that it has magic, dragons, fantasy, yet it is also set in the modern setting and watching the characters interact with their surroundings and each other is a

Tea, Earl Grey...hot.

Set phasers to STUNNED!! 😆 Yesterday, the teaser trailer for the much anticipated return of Jean-Luc Picard was released, and as a devoted Trekkie, specially growing up with Next Generation , I'm absolutely delighted. I'm also intrigued because it seems like the trailer is a direct nod to the final episode for the series, "All Good Things..." . I have so many questions, like, is this a re-con of a possible alternate ending? Can we hope for cameo appearances from other beloved TNG characters? Will Q be in this as well? Seriously, I have so many questions! No less, I'm super psyched to see Patrick Stewart back in the role that he made iconic. There's so many questions that need to be answered (and I'm sure will get the answers too, when the series is released) but for now what is certain that I can't wait to see this series. So, I will leave you with the trailer, and let me know your thoughts. Are you psyched as I am? Leave me a comment bel

Now, Our Watch has Ended

So, let's talk about the much anticipated season finale for Game of Thrones . Last night was the last night and the culmination of 8+ years of hard work for all those who were involved in the show. From the crew to the actors and everyone in between, yesterday was farewell. And, now that we are living in a digital media age, the fans' reactions were fast and furious. There were many whom enjoyed the ending, other's not so much (and boy, were they vocal, specially on Twitter!) . The main complaint that I could tell from those who were less impressed with the finale was: Pacing- felt too rushed Story development, specifically the character build up and feeling that it was for nought. Who ended on the "throne" and the fate of the remaining characters. Which, depending on your point of view, they're valid reasons why the fans who were left disappointed can critique it. But here's my OWN point of view (very much MY own) on why this finale was n

Nah, Nah, Nah, NAH Batman

I'm sure by now most of us have heard the news, that it's been officially announced that Robert Pattinson will be the new Batman. And a few of us have been left scratching our heads on this decision. variety.com What is going on over at WB headquarters that they chose to go with Pattinson?! No shade to Robert Pattinson, as a person, but as an actor, let's just say that his roles haven't been memorable for the best reasons. He really can't emote, I'd say he's at par with his former co-star Kristen Stewart, who can't emote even if her life depended on it. I honestly want to think that the person responsible for casting is either high, drunk or naive. Yes, Bruce Wayne is moody, broody, dark... but not obnoxious twinkling vampire moody. What I don't understand is that we know that there have been some couple of misses in their casting choices (for their movies) but there has also been some great choices. Specially when it comes to their t.v

I Want a Refund

Hello!! O.k, so no I haven't disappeared yet again on you guys, but last week was eventful since, my In-Laws decided to come for an entire week for a much needed family vacation in my neck of the woods. It was a roller coaster, with up's & down's, but overall we all had an enjoyable experience. Except for Friday... On this day, we decided as a family to finally go see Avengers: Endgame  in theaters. So, my husband, along with my MIL, FIL & daughter (and I of course) headed to the movies. In advance, we reserved our tickets, with reserved seating (it was an IMAX theater) and off we went. We decided that we would do one of the last showings just because we already knew that it was a 3 hour long movie, so, we were o.k with that. The movie theater was not full (due to maybe time, etc). So, we went up, took our seats and prepared to be wowed. Maria Rivas/Instagram Nope, we got annoyed. We had noticed that in our same row, there was another small group of

Gotta Run Away Fast.

We've all seen the trailers for the upcoming release of Pokemon: Detective Pikachu  and most of us have gotten excited to see our favorite Pokemon come to life (CGI, of course) on the big screen. One of the most iconic Pokemon have been Pikachu, and what we've seen, he is stinkingly adorable in anime form or live-action. The animation for the CGI was well handled for what we've been able to gather from the trailers. digitalspy.com So, it makes sense that other production companies want to cash in the nostalgia fever and releases their own spin on classic icons of classic games. But, what in the HECK are you guys thinking at Paramount?!?! About a day ago or so, the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog movie was release, and let me tell you, Sonic looks like something that was brought from the darkest pits of hell. Seriously, what were the animators thinking?! It's not cute, nor endearing, or even worth of the namesake. Newsweek.com Whatever that was, it was

Dearly Departed.

I will admit, I was an absolute mess last night with the third episode of Game of Thrones. I sobbed like a baby with what happened last night, that I'm still processing it all this day. Holy sh*t! So much agony, suspense and surprises. If you haven't seen last night's episode (for whatever reason) proceed at your own risk, because SPOILERS ARE COMING. Here are the casualties in last night "Battle of Winterfell..." TVLine.com Little Lyanna Mormont, the fierce little bear fought bravely and took down Wun-Wun the zombie giant with her, but unfortunately did not make it. And I was hoping (like many people) that she would because she was just a bad-ass in her own right. But sadly, House Mormont is no longer with us. Game of Thrones Wiki Sir Friendzone also perished in last night's episode in the most epic and heroic way possible, protecting his Khaleesi. Yes, Jorah Mormont died protecting the woman he loved. Til' the very end, he fought for

The Rise of Mark Hamill

Ever since 'The Force Awakens,' which without a doubt an absolute hit, there's one person who has benefited from this renewed interest in the saga, that person being the great Mark Hamill. And in my personal opinion it is well overdue. He's a fabulous actor, who for awhile was overshadowed by Harrison Ford's action-adventure career. Not to throw any shade at Mr. Ford, he's also a wonderful actor, but Mark was overshadowed, and at a point, unfortunately type-casted, until he shined with his voice-acting chops as The Joker in the much beloved 90's cartoon, Batman: The Animated Series.  From then on, he's been working with his talented voice doing many memorable voice overs, but once The Force Awakened, it's like a renewed interest in Mark, as more than a voice-actor has put him back into the spotlight. Which I am absolutely thrilled as a long time fan of Mr. Hamill (and yes, Luke forever will be my MCM) it brings me joy seeing him more constantly

Winter is Here (SPOILER ALERT)

As most of the world knows by now, yesterday was the premier of Game of Thrones, season 8 and to say the least, it has been one of the most expected seasons for over a year! Usually I don't like to spoil anything for those of you whom might come across my blog, but this time, I'm going to make a bit of the exception to the rule, in that I will basically tell you some of my favorite moments from last night's episode. adventureinpoortaste.com So, this is your one and only... **SPOILER ALERT** 1. Jon Snow returns to Winterfell.... OMG, all that side-eye and shade! The King in the North returns, but now with Daenerys and if only side eyes could kill. No one is really happy about it, but specially the Stark (Sansa, Bran & Arya) whom are really cautious about the arrival of Dany. And can you really blame them after all they've been through? Specially, when some of the Lords in the North decide to sit it out because they feel betrayed by Jon, whom swore to

Proud Geek Mom moment.

Phew! It's been a while since I posted on here. No, I have not forgotten about this blog, and yes, I'm still writing on it because it's fun. WoW has kinda taken over my free time to be honest (No, I don't have a problem, lol) and also just life in general has been a roller coaster, specially these past couple of weeks. But now I find myself having a bit of more time, so I'm here 😁. As many by now know realize that I am a Geek, but I'm also a parent. And even though I've come to terms and acceptance with my geekiness, that doesn't mean that my daughter has to be one as well. But, as all parents do, I like to share with her things that I think she might enjoy. We (the Mr. and I) got her into WoW, because she developed a genuine curiosity for it. I didn't coarse her or influence her into it. She also has her own little niches, like Minecraft, Undertale, etc. But most importantly, we let her make her own choice when it comes to what she likes and wh

Sink your teeth into Castlevania.

It is almost February and within the time that I've been missing, there have been so many news, that it is kind of hard to talk to you guys about everything. Lately, I must admit that I've been in a weird funk of watching interesting shows, movies, that are not necessarily in everyone's radar. Yes, I could talk about the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, or anything else that has been buzzing around the internet. But lately, with all the nay-sayers, I've kinda gotten into this funk of finding lost treasure in shows that might not be well known, or given enough time of day, due to either people not knowing, or just glossing over.  One of those 'diamonds in the rough' that I recently was made aware of is 'Castlevania' on Netflix. There's only two seasons of the animated series, and I basically binged watched season 1 yesterday with the Hubby.  And seriously, if you haven't seen this animated series, it really is damned good. (See w

Carmen Sandiego is back!!

First things first, Happy New Year everyone!! I'm hoping you're starting 2019 on the right foot. With that being said, let's get on with the rest of this post, shall we? So, you may be wondering why I haven't posted in a bit, and yes, I know I tend to disappear a bit, but lately I've been kinda stuck playing WoW, sorry. I haven't neglected you, it's just that I've been putting hours on my online gaming. Also, mainly (and this will be part of the post) it's because I've been feeling a bit down with our community. Why? Because, recently there's been so many 'negative nancies' about pretty much anything, gaming, films, tv, etc. It kinda makes me want to distance myself for a bit from the Geek community. Look, we're all dealing with our daily sh*t fest, not to mention our global sh*t fest, it's just a sh*t fest most of our waking hours, and the one thing that makes me happy is being part of a community that gets me.
