The Dragon Prince

So, you finished watching most of your intended shows and you have no clue on what to watch next? Well, thanks to my daughter, and her amazing taste (specially when it comes to dragons) she introduced me to this amazing series called The Dragon Prince  which is currently on Netflix. I believe most of the production team from Avatar: The Last Airbender  is also responsible for this hidden gem.  IMDb The style is also reminiscent of Avatar , but do not be fooled, it is not Avatar in the least. So, what is this show about, you ask. Well here's a quick synopsis (spoiler free, of course): I n the kingdom of Xadia, humans have corrupted the 6 magic elements and created dark magic. The Dragon King gets killed by the humans with the dragon egg. Everyone thinks they're both gone, but two brothers, Callum and Ezran find the egg and must deliver it to the Dragon Queen in Xadia, no try and stop the war that was started and bring peace to both Xadia and the human land....

Not your Mother's She-Ra.

On November 13, Netflix finally premiered 'She-Ra & The Princesses of Power.' Not sure if it was long awaited (for other people, I was absolutely waiting for this!)  and even before it was released it was met with a bit of controversy due to the new styling. Well, my daughter and I sat to binge watched season 1 and let me tell you, it was absolutely perfectly well balanced. For those of us old enough to remember the original series, there are tons of references to characters, events, etc. It doesn't dwell too much into, but it gives a respectful nod to the original series. It isn't a carbon copy of the 80's She-ra and it isn't completely different (I'm assuming this was done for the 'nay-sayers.').  It is very well balanced with new elements and nostalgia inducing references. imdb.com Character development is also well done, I absolutely love the fact that Cattra was given a much rounder, complex backstory in this rebo...

Excelsior.

Yesterday was an absolutely devastating day when the entire world learned of the passing of our beloved Excelsior. And as I woke up today, deep inside of me, I wanted to believe that it wasn't true, that it was one of those cheesy celebrity 'death hoaxes' but the reality is that, he's gone. It's been a day, and throughout social media, people are still pouring out their grief and condolences. Den of Geek I think most of us are still in shell shock, trying to come to terms that a legend has passed, but that doesn't mean he will be forgotten. Stan Lee touched millions with his stories, with what he created can only be described with one word.... genius. He created heroes who represented our deepest desires and also showed our flaws, and entire generations grew up taking an introspective look at their own lives, with simple 'comics.' His legacy transcended because it was ultimately spoke to us through our shared humanity, and whether we spok...

Guinan: Unsung heroine.

Lately I've been on a Star Trek binge watching mood (TOS & TNG   to be exact)  but mainly, TNG, since I grew up with it. Either way, it's been super fun re-watching the series because there are themes/episodes that went over my head when I was younger, now I'm far more perceptive. (maybe I was just an oblivious kid to begin with 😜 ) Whatever it might have been, ever since I've had the chance to re-watch TNG episodes, I came to the conclusion that Counselor Deanna Troi was not very good at her job, unlike Guinan, despite NOT being officially the ship's counselor, Picard regarded her advice and opinions far more than Troi's expertise. Despite the fact that Whoopi Goldberg was a guest starring appearance, and it was a versatile role, where if she needed to be a filler character, she could be. She gave far excellent advice to the rest of the crew. Not only Picard went to her for but Worf, Crusher, Geordi, Data and even Riker seemed to look for her when ...

Worth an Arm and a Leg.

😆😆😆😆, OMG, I'm seriously freaking out you guys!! For those of you who don't know yet, Funko has announced that they will be releasing Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Pops for January, and I've just lost my shit!! Screw getting anything else for Christmas, if that means I can get my hands on these Pops! I'll even give my arm and a leg in order to get my hands on these beauties. And no, I'm not kidding you, they're amazing. Hot Topic will have an exclusive with Alphonse in his metal suit holding, kittens, it's stinking adorable. I believe GameStop will have the Alex Armstrong exclusive, without his shirt off, of course! ( It looks like Armstrong will be released sooner, in December, so is it December already?!) The line up will be: Edward Elric Winry Rockbell Roy Mustang (with a flame coming out of his hand) Alphonse Elric (this is the non-exclusive) with his armor. Alphonse Elric* (Hot Topic Exclusive) he'll be holding kittens wi...

For the Honor of Arkham!

Two days ago, the first official trailer for the new 'She-ra: Princesses of Power'  was finally released, and I cannot stop squealing!!! Yes, I am aware I just covered this in the last couple of days, but I can't stop! 😝 This is huge for me, and I believe for a lot of fans whom grew up with the original 80's cartoon. I love how the essence of the iconic 80's cartoon can still be seen in the trailer. I love the new relationship between Catthra and Adora, and how it adds a different dimension to the new series. I also love how it's not just Adora in this new series, but she's one of a group that is willing to fight against the Evil Horde. I enjoyed the humor, and specially the new animation. The way the characters are drawn have a nostalgia feel to them, but they're also a new element as well. This isn't the 80's version, but a newer version for this generation. There is a feel that there is respect for the older version, it's not de...

The Future IS Female

I'm sure that many of you by now have seen the Captain Marvel trailer more times than possible, and yes, I am too excited for the release. I love the fact that lately we've been getting strong female characters in films, tv, comics, etc., and it's about damn time! Yes, I know we had Wonder Woman about two years ago, and even though that was a step in the right direction, we need to embrace it even further! That is not to say that the story is solely about women, on the contrary, it is a story in which a woman happens  to be it's main protagonist. Which is huge difference. This is not to say that a "female" driven story isn't important or not as important, because it is, but the fact that she's being portrayed as an actual full character that has a commitment to save the world, is a good step in the right direction. Women can also be fierce, strong, intelligent and capable of whatever their minds/consciousness decide to do. I'm also always amaz...

Unpopular Opinion.

For the last couple of weeks I've been watching (yes, for the first time) Avatar: The Last Airbender. Apparently, I've been hiding under a rock, go figure! 😂 TBH, I'm currently watching it ( I'm on Book 2) and about to finish it to go on to Book 3.  And, before you ask, yes, I've had heard of Avatar, but somehow it really never peaked my interest, or maybe I'm just too lazy. Either way, since I've been watching, I just can't seem to understand why  the series gets SO MUCH hype. Don't get me wrong, it is a GOOD series. It is enjoyable and I understand the appeal to it, but what I don't understand the over-hype it gets. Fanpop The characters are well rounded, with engaging backstories, and growth throughout the series, the characters are well developed. You start growing attached to them (specially Iroh, Momo and Appa). The audience can understand their motivations, struggles and you feel like they're real. Which is a p...

Seven Deadly Sins.

This isn't a rant whatsoever, but I find it ironic that even though, I'm trying to diversify my blog from falling into the same style of movies/show reviews, I really can't help it, lol. Seriously, I'm trying not to JUST bring you guys movies/show reviews. 😇 I guess, I really just can't help myself, so sorry. One thing I am trying to do is make them more shorter. Sweet and snappy, since, my older ones, just went on and on. Either way, so unfortunately due to my work (IRL) I really had neglected my blog, but due to extraordinary events, I find myself no longer having a job (yes, I am jobless for now!) So, I've decided that I really need to keep up with my blog. Sooo, will there be more frequent entries, yes, but I will not be over saturating you guys with too many, because it is easy to burn out too. Netflix.com Just realized I went on a tangent, OK, I'm back. If you haven't had the chance to watch Seven Deadly Sins, you definitely should. ...

Netflix She-ra v. 'fan boys'.

Recently, infuriated 'fan boys' have been getting their panties in a bunch because, there was a photo shown of the re-boot Netflix She-ra that is coming in November, and they've all lost their cool. So, many of them are b*tching about how the new iteration, drawn and helmed by none other than Noelle Stevenson, isn't the 80s' She-ra we all grew up with. Polygon This "new" She-ra isn't voluptious, curvy nor eye candy for thirsty 'neckbeards' whom only think that a cartoon female has one sole purpose, and that is to have them drool over her. I saw the infamous picture and you know what, at first, my reaction was (to be honest) "hmmm, she's different" but I wasn't "ewww, that's not She-ra!!!" I am proud that Stevenson and Netflix have come up with this new version of her. She's not curvy nor sensual, but she looks fierce, dignified. This is definitely a character that I would love my daughter to gro...

Do you believe in Magic: A Survival Guide for N00bies.

I blame my husband for this. Wasn't enough that I already do not have almost to none self control when it comes to spending on geeky items every darn paycheck?! Seriously? Wasn't that enough, Geek Overlords?! Well, I guess their answer was 'HECK NO' because it wasn't enough spending it on Pop Funko collectibles, purses, etc., now I also spend a good chunk of my paycheck on Magic: The Gathering 😆😆. A couple of months ago, my dear husband introduced me to the magical world of MtG (yes, I know it's a bit redundant) and it seems like I haven't stopped. I have a problem, and it's not drugs. So, I thought this would be a good idea to do a n00b survival guide to MtG and what to expect, when you're expecting?! 🙊🙈 Here goes: It is a good idea that if you have seriously been thinking in getting into MtG, you have a seasoned player with you on your journey. Seasoned players whom have been around MtG for a while, can give you incredible insight, ...

Nimona

Lately, I've been noticing a trend on my blog, and it isn't bad, but I definitely, do not want my blog to ONLY cover one kind of topic, so I'm trying to diversify it (from reviewing movies only) to reviewing other mediums, like comics, etc. (Because, ahem, I do read comics, not as much as I would like, but I do.) So, here goes my attempt to diversify. And what will I be reviewing for you today? a graphic novel by Noelle Stevenson, called Nimona. I promise, there are NO spoilers ahead! 😇 The main characters are: Lord Blackheart- the  "villain" of this story. And yes, it is not an accident the " ". He's more of a tragic anti-hero with ethics. Sir Ambrosius Goldenloin- is the "hero" of the story, whose sole mission is to foil Blackheart's dastardly, villainous plans. Nimona- our titled character is a young sidekick to Lord Blackheart whose mysterious past, plays a key role in the story. The Institution- is the law enforc...

CALLING ALL CAT LADIES!!

Lately, I've been noticing that I've been doing way, and I mean WAY   too many film reviews, and as much as I enjoy them, I really don't want to have one sort of content on my blog. So, this blog won't be a film  review (although, I was really tempted to write one for The Incredibles 2 ) instead it will be a game review of a really fun game that involves the subject-matter that is near and dear to my heart, CATS! So for all future and current cat ladies (and everyone else) today I will be reviewing Cat Lady . The mechanics: Easy to play (30 minute game) card game that involves rows and columns, where there are different cards, which are: Cats (these felines need to be adopted by you and the other players. Milk, tuna, meat cards (which you trade in for little pegs, that represent either milk, tuna or meat to feed your kitties). Cat toys, these give extra stuff at the end of the game. Cat nip, also these give extra stuff at the end of game. BoardGameGeek ...

Ready Player One (Film) Review

Alright, yes this review is most likely late, since the movie has been out for a while and I'm pretty sure that many of you have seen it. But, first, I'm a slow reader, ok?! Second, it's hard for me to keep up with all the movies that I would like to go see, so sue me, lol. ( Don't really sue me though, cuz' I have lots of bills to pay, thanks ) Moving on, so, yes, I (of all days, I know) just watched the film adaptation of Ernest Cline's "Ready Player One"  and yes, I've read the book before hand. And let me tell you, that the studio wasn't kidding when they said that they had 'adapted' the film from the movie. And we all know what that means, that the script took liberties (many) in the events from the book. The essence of the story IS there, but I did have some issues regarding some points in the film. The story itself felt rushed, the characters were introduced too fast and it seemed like the audience was expected to grow an...

A Love Letter to Marvel Fans aka Infinity War.

Sometimes, being spoiler free, is ridiculously hard. Arrghh!! Nevertheless, I still want to maintain my credo of not giving things away and potentially spoiling things for everyone else, so this won't be a ridiculously in depth review about Avengers: Infinity War  it will most certainly be a commentary about my thoughts about the movie (yes, without spoiling the movie, so no, don't get the pitch forks, just yet). Where to start: Pacing... although despite some commentaries on the internet, have griped about the film being "rushed" in my humble opinion, it not so much seemed rushed, more that it had that eminent feel too it. The mood was more of "let's do something about it now... before Thanos gets all the stones" feel to it. But, I think that the film overall had good pacing. There were too many tugged at your heart strings moments, because we've come to love and care for these characters over the past 10 years, so, yes, it is an emotion...
