Unpopular Opinion.

For the last couple of weeks I've been watching (yes, for the first time) Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Apparently, I've been hiding under a rock, go figure! 😂

TBH, I'm currently watching it ( I'm on Book 2) and about to finish it to go on to Book 3.

And, before you ask, yes, I've had heard of Avatar, but somehow it really never peaked my interest, or maybe I'm just too lazy. Either way, since I've been watching, I just can't seem to understand why the series gets SO MUCH hype.

Don't get me wrong, it is a GOOD series. It is enjoyable and I understand the appeal to it, but what I don't understand the over-hype it gets.

The characters are well rounded, with engaging backstories, and growth throughout the series, the characters are well developed. You start growing attached to them (specially Iroh, Momo and Appa). The audience can understand their motivations, struggles and you feel like they're real. Which is a plus.

The story is creative (but not unique enough, the last remaining person who is the only one that can restore, balance and destroy the evil villain, where have I heard this before???), it also has good pacing and story-lines, but at times, it is also predictable. I get that this originally aired on Nickelodeon, and it's lightness is due to the fact that it is a children's network, so the creators couldn't get too intense. But at times, it feels like a story that we're too familiar with and despite the well roundness of the character development, there were a couple of times were I could see and predict where the story line was going. To me, that isn't a deal breaker, but it does affect how I view the rest of the story. There's not a lot of surprises, in which I can say that I was shocked so far by the events. It is the typical under dog story, with the help of his/her friends, is able to accomplish whatever this person needs to accomplish.

This might sound a tad bit silly, and despite that I fully understand that this series takes place in ANOTHER universe, so not everything in our universe translates exactly to theirs, I can't wrap my brain about all the different cross-breeds, for example, Platypus-bear?! C'mon!! Yes, it is a bit silly to get over worked over a Platypus-bear, but think about it?! How in the f**k would a platypus and a bear mate?! I know, I'm petty. 😁

Don't get me wrong, I'm really enjoying the story and by no means I'm saying that it isn't a good series, it's fresh, light, it has all the elements of why it is and continues to be a loved series, but I guess, I don't understand why it has so much over-hype, specially that the original creators of the series announced that they are in works to make a live-action Avatar movie (sans, M. Night Shyamalan), so it was been brought back to our collective radars.

I might just be an anomaly, who knows! And before you guys lynch me, I haven't finished the series, and I haven't watched Legend of Korra, so, perhaps I should have reserved my judgement for AFTER.

Perhaps it would benefit me to read the comics? That may help to change mind about things.

I would like to think that I can't be the ONLY one whom thinks like such, right, right?!

Gotta Run Away Fast.

We've all seen the trailers for the upcoming release of Pokemon: Detective Pikachu  and most of us have gotten excited to see our favorite Pokemon come to life (CGI, of course) on the big screen. One of the most iconic Pokemon have been Pikachu, and what we've seen, he is stinkingly adorable in anime form or live-action. The animation for the CGI was well handled for what we've been able to gather from the trailers. digitalspy.com So, it makes sense that other production companies want to cash in the nostalgia fever and releases their own spin on classic icons of classic games. But, what in the HECK are you guys thinking at Paramount?!?! About a day ago or so, the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog movie was release, and let me tell you, Sonic looks like something that was brought from the darkest pits of hell. Seriously, what were the animators thinking?! It's not cute, nor endearing, or even worth of the namesake. Newsweek.com Whatever that was, it was...

I Want a Refund

Hello!! O.k, so no I haven't disappeared yet again on you guys, but last week was eventful since, my In-Laws decided to come for an entire week for a much needed family vacation in my neck of the woods. It was a roller coaster, with up's & down's, but overall we all had an enjoyable experience. Except for Friday... On this day, we decided as a family to finally go see Avengers: Endgame  in theaters. So, my husband, along with my MIL, FIL & daughter (and I of course) headed to the movies. In advance, we reserved our tickets, with reserved seating (it was an IMAX theater) and off we went. We decided that we would do one of the last showings just because we already knew that it was a 3 hour long movie, so, we were o.k with that. The movie theater was not full (due to maybe time, etc). So, we went up, took our seats and prepared to be wowed. Maria Rivas/Instagram Nope, we got annoyed. We had noticed that in our same row, there was another small group of ...

Sink your teeth into Castlevania.

It is almost February and within the time that I've been missing, there have been so many news, that it is kind of hard to talk to you guys about everything. Lately, I must admit that I've been in a weird funk of watching interesting shows, movies, that are not necessarily in everyone's radar. Yes, I could talk about the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, or anything else that has been buzzing around the internet. But lately, with all the nay-sayers, I've kinda gotten into this funk of finding lost treasure in shows that might not be well known, or given enough time of day, due to either people not knowing, or just glossing over.  One of those 'diamonds in the rough' that I recently was made aware of is 'Castlevania' on Netflix. There's only two seasons of the animated series, and I basically binged watched season 1 yesterday with the Hubby.  And seriously, if you haven't seen this animated series, it really is damned good. (See w...
