So, you finished watching most of your intended shows and you have no clue on what to watch next?
Well, thanks to my daughter, and her amazing taste (specially when it comes to dragons) she introduced me to this amazing series called The Dragon Prince which is currently on Netflix.
I believe most of the production team from Avatar: The Last Airbender is also responsible for this hidden gem.
The style is also reminiscent of Avatar, but do not be fooled, it is not Avatar in the least.
So, what is this show about, you ask.
Well here's a quick synopsis (spoiler free, of course):
In the kingdom of Xadia, humans have corrupted the 6 magic elements and created dark magic. The Dragon King gets killed by the humans with the dragon egg. Everyone thinks they're both gone, but two brothers, Callum and Ezran find the egg and must deliver it to the Dragon Queen in Xadia, no try and stop the war that was started and bring peace to both Xadia and the human land.
Obviously,. there is more to the story, but then I would have to spoil things.
The story is compelling and intriguing. It feels like you're going on the journey with them, something a kin to Frodo taking the ring to Mount Doom. There's definitely more than meets the eye to the simple quest story, but we won't find out until the series progresses. But it's definitely a story that is worth following.
The animation is absolutely stunning, it beautifully captures the two lands, the struggle between both humans and magical creatures.
The characters are also well rounded and compelling. There are quite few to pick from for the 'favorite character' title. I specially love Rayla and General Amaya, they're bad-asses in their own right. As for the villains, they're also complex, well-rounded characters whom bring a good balance to the heroes.
I'm definitely enjoying the series and look forward to season 2.
So, if you like dragons, fantasy, magic, epic quests, etc. you might want to definitely check out the series, currently on season 1.
