NEW 52: WONDER WOMAN REVIEW

My all time favorite DC heroine is Wonder Woman (a very narrow second place is held by Hawkgirl, 'bird nose' according to Solomon Grundy).  And as a massive load of you know DC New 52 has come out with a re-vamped more streamlined Wonder Woman story. Azzarello, Chiang and Akins have done an incredible job, not just by the artwork, but the story is absolutely solid. I seriously don't want to spoil any thing for those of you who haven't had the chance to read the new 52 story line. Brief synopsis is that Wonder Woman has to confront many Olympian Gods & Goddesses for Zeus' throne.  There is also a very important prophecy that involves a mortal girl & her child. The story line has twists, turns, allies, not so much mainstream villains, but more so contenders for the throne (this sounds a bit like a Game of Thrones episode! lol.)  Btw, they also revamped her origin story, which now makes her even more of a bad-ass than ever!! BIG HERO 6 Review

Yesterday it finally happened, we went to see Big Hero 6!! And I truly had an incredible time and thoroughly enjoyed the movie from beginning to end. (I also think my daughter did not blink  because she was THAT entertained by Baymax) Big Hero 6 is a huge, HUGE difference from last years disappointment that is known as FROZEN. I couldn't stand it. The opening song is basically not just a foreshadowing of what's to come in the movie, but it actually is the entire movie, sung. No real suspense, not really a female empowerment theme, it's just bland. For me at least, not even Olaf could save it. And now with Big Hero 6, you can tell that the story was better thought through. There's definitely better character interaction and development. From Tadashi, Hiro, Honey, Baymax, and the rest of the characters, there is more of a connection. I could identify with them. But ultimately, I think I can identify (just like everyone else does) myself with is Bay...

THE FANDOM AWAKENS!!!!

May the Force be with J.J. ABRAMS!!! So, after so many times being rick-rolled over “official” trailers for the new Star Wars The Force Awakens, it finally happened!!! We finally got an actual snippet of the trailer that has broken the internet since we found out that J.J. Abrams took the helm of this project. Critics (positive and negative) have abound with their opinions about their personal expectations for this upcoming film. And quite frankly, it’s not over possessiveness, but we want justice after the fiasco of the “Special Editions” and the Prequels. Anyways, all around the fringes of cyberspace comments have been made, expectations either have been heightened or completely destroyed, but it seems a lot more real than those pesky “rumors.” And in my most personal opinion, I only have to say this…. I will reserve any comment, judgment on and or about this (or for that matter, any future teasers, trailers, etc.) teaser trailer until right before the first ...

Star Wars or Star Trek: Which one sets your Geeky heart a flutter?

A couple of days ago, while sitting down and watching Fanboys , got me thinking of the touch-y subject (and at times controversial, I guess) of which one is better, Star Wars or Star Trek? Sure, both franchises have some things in common, like the obvious, both contain Star  in their titles and both revolve around space (and at this point, you maybe yelling at me by saying "No duh"). I promise, this post WILL get better! Ok., aside from the blatantly obvious, both franchises could not be more different. It would be like comparing apples to watermelons. But, I'm not here to discuss the differences, neither am I here to sway you from one or the other. Mainly I'm here to ask you guys, which one and mainly WHY  do you prefer one better than the other? Personally for me, I have so much love for both.  Both were significant and integral parts of my childhood and continue to be. As a child one of my fondest memories is watching reruns of Star ...

DC, what are you doing?!

Ok, in all fairness, you must  be warned: this is a sort of gripe-y post, and these are just my personal problems with what DC is doing so far with it's direction in t.v. & film wise. Let it be known that, I am absolutely enjoying the New 52, and there is not much to complain about. So, here I go! DC, what are you doing?! (points accusatory finger) First I would like to address the fact that there are fantastic things that you are doing with your t.v. shows ( Flash & Arrow) , which I could be as thrilled with Gotham. I must admit that I have been hooked by The Flash  and Arrow. I watched the premier of The Flash  and from the get go, I absolutely freakin' enjoyed it, and I wish that it was only a longer show. I seriously love the nods to the comics, and I love the casting that was done for the show and the character development. Same goes for Arrow , I seriously feel like each episode is like me going to new comic book Wednesday and ac...

Give Regina a Break!!

Not so long ago, I finally caught up to season 3 of Once Upon a Time, and as many of you know, at the very end there was an unexpected, yet very much talked about appearance from a much beloved character, who for sake of spoilers, shall remain nameless.  So many things in the last season left me shocked, grief stricken, and all over season 3 gave me so many different kinds of feels, that I cannot possibly enumerate. But one of the feels that this last season did profoundly affect me was how Regina/The Evil Queen cannot get a break!!! I seriously felt for her in the last episode and of all the characters in Storybrooke,, she is one of the few who whole heartedly deserves some slack and a happily ever after. Don't agree? Tis' ok, we can all agree & disagree, but in my personal viewpoint, I honestly think she very much deserves it. When I first started watching OUAT, season 1, I absolutely did not like Regina, but as weird as it may sound, I never truly thou...

Don't call Anime the "C" word!!

Oh for the love of Mike!!  So, one merry day while I was doing my routine fan girl duty of scavenging on YouTube for videos of my favorite geeky/nerdy things, I bump into one particular parody video where they are clearly making fun of Ariana Grande and her one look hairdo.  I honestly got a chuckle or two for the reference of Anime and Ariana's infamous hairdo.  Nevertheless, I usually do look at the comments (mainly to see other peoples' opinions and what not, sometimes witty comments to the videos I have just seen) and couldn't help but notice that not only this particular video had garner a lot of anger from fans of this singer and also fans Anime. What struck me in particular was that many Anime fans were up in arms about the reference that was made of Anime being equated to "cartoons." And this is when all hell broke lose!! There were abundant comments stating many many reasons why it was an insult to call Anime "cartoons." To the point...

To Thine Own Self Be True...

I've always known that I was quirky and never truly fitting in the "popular crowd" (whatever the heck that means) throughout grade school and high school.  I was one of the few little girls who felt I had a sense of self from very early on.  I fought my friends over me wanting to be the bad-ass and not the damsel in distress. I knew what I like and who I was, quirky, misfit, completely interested in TMNT, RoboCop, Transformers, Batman, etc, etc.  I wish I could say I look back with fondness my elementary years, but like so many of us (who have been labeled Geeks/Nerds at this point by our peers) these years were torturous.  Being pushed, teased wasn't a very pleasant experience.  I truly felt out of place. By the last years in elementary school I was suffering through the most severe form of bullying, being shoved, hit, slapped by my peers just because I couldn't associate with the "in" programs of the 90s, and for liking Star Trek TNG, Sta...
