Let's set art shall we?! OK, over the weekend I was finally able to go watch a movie on the big screen, so we (family and I) decided to go see Kubo and the Two Strings, which by the look of the trailers seemed like a movie we would enjoy and here is basically what I thought about it...

Let's set art shall we?! OK, over the weekend I was finally able to go watch a movie on the big screen, so we (family and I) decided to go see Kubo and the Two Strings, which by the look of the trailers seemed like a movie we would enjoy and here is basically what I thought about it...
- Set in ancient Japan, it has an amazing background filled with diverse characters and unique visuals of celebrations of Japanese culture. From he beginning we get amazing glimpse of Japanese folklore, culture and the importance of ancestors throughout the film. Visually stunning and detailed, the film reels he audince from the get go.
- Unique story line, it does elements of a adventure/quest, but with he combination of graphics, animation and games, the story is very unique and we can definitely identify and sympathize with film.
- Compelling characters from Kubo's mother to Beetle and even The Moon King. Well developed characters, the majority of the charters had a relatable humNity in them. It felt like we (audience) was following them in this epic journey. Despite that the MoonKing was the main antagonist of the film, there was a complex nature to him, yes he wanted Kubo's remaining e, but not out of vengeance, but because he couldn't comprehend his and his mother's humanity and the significance of it. Probably there was a bit of hatred towards the fact that he felt slighted, but his character (like the others) were complex, rich and well thought-out.

- Film had good pacing, moments that audience needed a calmer pace to either rest or catch up with events was well placed. But those calm moments weren't dragged out that the film lost momentum. The moments where the heroes found themselves in peril and had to take action were quick but also did not take forever to resolve. Overall the film was well balanced by comedic, touching, & fast pace action.
- One thing that I consider important is the predictability of the movie. How predictable is the plot or events. The film does have that factor, but (yes, there is a but in this) the predictability has a reason to be there. It adds to one of the themes of the movie. So, despite that it has predictable elements, I think that it was also done on purpose to further emphasizes the heme of family and that despite that our lved ones may not be here with us the way we remember them, they're still with us, one way or another.
- Visually, the mo is is stunning using 3D stop-motion models with traditional models of the same kind. At the end of the film, while the credits rolling, there is a bit where they show the audience a bit of the filming of the 3D model for the skeleton monster. The sets are detailed, Be the color scheme beautifully enhances while conveying the culture and plot.
- Themes in the story are a bit complex for a younger audience. There are various themes, mainly, live, humanity, family and the importance of remembering one's past (and ancestors). Due to some of the theme I recommend that if you will be taking a younger audience, They might be able to enjoy it better if they are 10 years or older.
Overall, I truly enjoyed the movie and wouldn't hesitate to either go watch it again in theaters or acquire it on DVD when it is released. I enjoyed the story, characters and animation and genuinely think it is a solid film that will be enjoyed for more years to come.
So, do I recommend it, yes, absolutely! 😀
Til' next time!
