So, yesterday was the world premier of Doctor Who series 9, and like many many of my fellow Whovians (and also because I was fortunate to have the day off) I tuned in.
And it did not disappoint! So many references, so much drama, oh the feels!!
The first episode was appropriately titled.
I think the move of returning the Doctor and Clara where everything (meaning the Great Time War started) with the key players (Davros, Daleks' homeworld, etc.) was excellent.
The beginning of the episode, having the Doctor trying to save the unknown child, and all of a sudden getting the 'OH, GOSH' moment when it is revealed who the child really is, creates an instant dilemma for the our Time Lord.
And as the episode progresses, we see the shame and urgency of The Doctor who wants to protect Clara and Missy from a battle he knows he needs to face himself.
The deeper connect between Clara and The Doctor (when she and Missy are transported to the Doctor's location) resembles the deep connection River Song and 11th had and always have had.
But the highlight of last night's episode (aside from the Doctor's grand entrance) is none other than Missy.
Yes, The Master himself in his current female regeneration, aka. also known as Missy, stole the show.
Michelle Gomez's portrayal of Missy, her attitude, charisma & charm gives a very different side to The Master. I'm seriously hoping that she will get to be in more episodes creating chaos, mischief and being her evil charming self.
Another highlight is seeing the Dalek homeworld for the first time. Throughout the series, we, the viewers have only been told of the Daleks homeworld, but have never actually seen it. But now, we actually got to see what it looks like.
Clffhanger moments, were highlights, not only the one at the very end where you see The Doctor about to kill Davros and prevent Clara & Missy from being exterminated, but also the prevention of a repeat of the Great TIme War between Daleks & Time Lords.
That moment of "will he or won't he?" and "if he does, does he loose a part of the essence that defines him."
Also, the extermination of both Clara & Missy might not be permanent at all, but how? Well that is left for next Saturday's part two.
There's also another highlight, but this one is sad, because it has been confirmed that Jena Coleman will be leaving the series after this season. So, will always have our hearts stuck on our throats and hoping that with each new episode, it won't be her last. What would we do without our souffle girl?
Overall, last night episode was indeed magical and it reminded us why Doctor Who has been endearing and captivating generations.
From the whimsical to the tragic, it is a rollercoaster ride that with an incredible first episode, this promises to be an incredible series 9 yet.
I'm ready to galavant through space & time on the Tardis, are you?!
P.S.: No, I'm not trying to down play 12th's awesome entrance, because in all honesty, it was EPIC!
Btw, sorry lovelies that i hadn't posted for a while, but work has been a bit demanding as of late... but I WILL keep on posting (maybe not with the same frequency, but I will keep posting because I cannot keep my opinions to myself, lol)
Til' next time!!
