What Would Dory Do?

Hello Kiddies!! So, of course after the holiday weekend (Fourth of July), it is time to get back into our daily routines, but I am finally able to write yet another entry.

So, shall we?

As a treat for 4th of July, the Hubby and I (with our Munchkin) decided to finally catch 'Finding Dory' in theaters, so as you guys can imagine, this is my opinion piece of the movie.

  • Although it was a bit less funny than the original, it was definitely more of an emotional journey, not just for Dory but for Marlin & Nemo as well. Throughout the film, we are taken on a rollercoaster ride from funny moments, to tender and back again to charming events. It has a well balanced pace, which makes it not too slow or fast.
  • Dory is not an ecstatic character in this film. Finding Nemo, Dory was the charming comic relief for the more tense parts of the film. With her childlike wonder and whimsy, she teaches (inavertedly) Marlin, to let go a bit and let his son grow up, despite the perils that await him. In this film, she still has the childlike whimsy, but there is an earnest feeling to her, even a bit of a need to find a place and people that she belongs to. Throughout the film, she becomes more assertive and sure of herself by the end. She embraces herself and no longer is afraid of "forgetting' because she no longers sees it as a "crutch" but a part of who she is and embraces her "uniqueness."
  • There is a strong theme throughout the film, which is acceptance of ourselves no matter what difficulties we are born with. Dory even brings the other character's courage to face their 'disabilities'and embrace who they are, in order to overcome their obstacles and help her in her journey. Bailey the Beluga, at the beginning of the movie cannot echo-locate, but with help from Dory and his willingness to help her, he is able to overcome his shortcomings, and finally, assert himself and re-activate his echo-location. So does Destiny, the near blind shark whale who is blind as a bat. Despite bumping into things cosntantly, near the end of the film, she takes a leap of faith and embraces herself in order to help Dory and her friends.

  • Introduction of new characters, was well placed, made the characters endearing and they were useful for the story-telling. They also had very good chemistry with Marlin, Nemo and Dory. Specially Hank, the Seven-pus (Octopus) who at first seems only self-serving, but at the end we find out that he is a sweet and misunderstood character. Ed O'Neil's sarcasm and wit meshes well with Ellen's silliness.
  • The comedic moments were not overused and were well timed and were an added bonus to ease off the tension from vital parts.
  • There are  a couple of resounding themes in this move, which are the sense of belonging, family and embracing ones short comings in order to find the courage to do even more impossible things.

I definitely enjoyed the movie and absolutely recommend it. it is heart-warming, funny, with a very solid entertaining storyline.

For those who have seen it already, what are your thoughts? Let me know in the comment section below!

Til' next time!

Gotta Run Away Fast.

We've all seen the trailers for the upcoming release of Pokemon: Detective Pikachu  and most of us have gotten excited to see our favorite Pokemon come to life (CGI, of course) on the big screen. One of the most iconic Pokemon have been Pikachu, and what we've seen, he is stinkingly adorable in anime form or live-action. The animation for the CGI was well handled for what we've been able to gather from the trailers. digitalspy.com So, it makes sense that other production companies want to cash in the nostalgia fever and releases their own spin on classic icons of classic games. But, what in the HECK are you guys thinking at Paramount?!?! About a day ago or so, the trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog movie was release, and let me tell you, Sonic looks like something that was brought from the darkest pits of hell. Seriously, what were the animators thinking?! It's not cute, nor endearing, or even worth of the namesake. Newsweek.com Whatever that was, it was...

Sink your teeth into Castlevania.

It is almost February and within the time that I've been missing, there have been so many news, that it is kind of hard to talk to you guys about everything. Lately, I must admit that I've been in a weird funk of watching interesting shows, movies, that are not necessarily in everyone's radar. Yes, I could talk about the upcoming Captain Marvel movie, or anything else that has been buzzing around the internet. But lately, with all the nay-sayers, I've kinda gotten into this funk of finding lost treasure in shows that might not be well known, or given enough time of day, due to either people not knowing, or just glossing over.  One of those 'diamonds in the rough' that I recently was made aware of is 'Castlevania' on Netflix. There's only two seasons of the animated series, and I basically binged watched season 1 yesterday with the Hubby.  And seriously, if you haven't seen this animated series, it really is damned good. (See w...

Not your Mother's She-Ra.

On November 13, Netflix finally premiered 'She-Ra & The Princesses of Power.' Not sure if it was long awaited (for other people, I was absolutely waiting for this!)  and even before it was released it was met with a bit of controversy due to the new styling. Well, my daughter and I sat to binge watched season 1 and let me tell you, it was absolutely perfectly well balanced. For those of us old enough to remember the original series, there are tons of references to characters, events, etc. It doesn't dwell too much into, but it gives a respectful nod to the original series. It isn't a carbon copy of the 80's She-ra and it isn't completely different (I'm assuming this was done for the 'nay-sayers.').  It is very well balanced with new elements and nostalgia inducing references. imdb.com Character development is also well done, I absolutely love the fact that Cattra was given a much rounder, complex backstory in this rebo...
